3 Home Buys for Less Than Perfect Spaces

I’ve toyed around with different home posts for my blog.  And I was  r e a l l y  struggling. Every post I wrote I felt as if I trying to pretend that my space was ‘perfect’ or ‘#housegoals.’  When in fact it’s anything but.  There are certainly things I love about our Montana apartment (spiral staircase and vaulted ceilings to name a few), but there is so much I want to change.

But then I realized that more people are in these types of situations than living in their dream homes.  So few of us are contently snuggled up on the perfect leather couch, with the perfectly vintage rug under our feet.  The majority of us are wondering how on earth we are going to fit a side table and a bed in the same already cramped bedroom. So I made a list of the home buys that have solved my less than perfect space issues.

Ladders.

Whoever decided to start the blanket on ladder trend was a genius.  As a self proclaimed blanket addict keeping these cuties folded up and tucked away from the endless amount of dog hair we are plagued with (Zeus is a cutie but hairy) was starting to become impossible.  Now we simply lean a vintage ladder in a corner and tuck away my favorite cozy blankets.  High up from dog hair and conveniently better looking the messier they stored!

Floor Cushions.

My love for these ingenious little guys seems to always end up in my home decor posts.  But it’s only because they have solved the trickiest of spaces for me.  Whether the cushions create more spots for guests to sit or create an dreamy reading nook (my most recent project), they come in enough sizes and shapes to make any awkward space look cool.

Dual use.

I’ve started to notice I often use home buys in ways they aren’t necessarily intended for.  Like this little chair! I’ve been struggling trying to find a nightstand for my side of the bed or affording one that looks right. When I was reorganizing our guest bedroom for a friend I quickly turned the chair into nightstand and had a lightbulb moment.

The chair fits in my smaller space, gives me a place for books, and makes my room feel much less cramped than previous options have.  While at first I assumed it would just be a stop gap for a true nightstand, I might have a hard time leaving now that I’ve moved my growing collage wall above it.

Other dual use home buys I own:

  • hats as wall decor – cute Gigipip hats are my go to
  • bench turned coffee table – perfect for small spaces like ours
  • tapestry as a curtain

Sometimes I get so caught up in Google searches, that I forget the answer to my awkward space might be right in front of me.  Or that the answer might be something entirely different!  Is your space awkward like mine?
