Hurray! This post is my first ‘5 Good Things’ of 2018.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever believed in January blues more than I have this year. Those first few weeks of January were rough for me. Nothing even went necessarily wrong, I just felt so ‘blah‘ and every idea I had seemed to just fail miserably. Oy.
So naturally I did what always makes me feel good – I started listening to the news and looking up stories of good things happening. Especially good things that are happening in my own community
The fact that 600 men showed up after a simple community announcement blows my mind.
OK, let’s all agree 2017 was maybe not our best year on lots of fronts… EXCEPT for this fact.
This week we finally got to try out Montana’s only ‘pay what you can’ restaurant – Fork and Spoon. Not only was it delicious, I loved the idea behind the community restaurant and getting a chance to pay it forward.
Speaking of good ideas for communities, Denver decided to hire homeless people and now more than 100 of them have landed regular jobs.
Valentine’s day is right around the corner! It’s one of my favorite holidays. I even already have my cards all picked out this year to send to my friends! My parents always taught me that the holiday is not just romantic love – it’s for celebrating the love we have in our lives everyday. Sooooo happy early Valentine’s Day lovelies!
Luckily, my January blues seem to have finally lifted!
And while good news definitely helped me out, I think it was more from starting to become more proactive in my community. I volunteered with coworkers at our food bank and paying it forward to a local non profit lifted my spirits sky high. If any of you are stuck in a similar blues funk – try giving back. It’s shocking how powerful it is.
What is some good news you have heard this month?
PS I totally stole this post idea from Kate La Vie. She is one of my favorite bloggers to follow and always brightened my day when she shared this kind of post!
