A couple weeks back I was lucky enough to explore the coast on Lake Superior. I had a series of back to back weddings and my good friend was getting married in the upper peninsula of Michigan! (Or as the locals say, the UP or Yooper territory.)
I loved being surrounded by lake blues and getting to see the two hundred foot cliffs lining Lake Superior.
When I started to ask around for any travel suggestions to Michigan I noticed people either couldn’t stop giving me suggestions or had never been, like me. But after only two full days spent in the UP (I’m such a Yooper) I fell in love.
I can’t believe that this part of the US isn’t talked about more.
It’s true that Michigan really isn’t on the way to anything, so I get why it’s easily over looked, though I’m already wanting to make plans to see it once again. We did a quick two hour cruise right outside of Munising along Pictured Rocks. I actually wanted to kayak the section, but L and I finally decided that with such a short weekend we didn’t have time to make the s i x h o u r kayak trip when the cruise could do it all in two. (Does six hours sound crazy to anyone else??)
Just going through these photos makes me jump up and down again… Lover’s Leap, Spray Falls and that turquoise water… I just love it.
I know I have quite a bit of British followers (hi lovelies!) and I couldn’t help but think this is about the closet thing we have to your gorgeous coastline. And I frankly don’t know how you get anything done if you are near this. The sunsets + colors in the rocks blew me away and L actually had to pull me away since we had a very early morning to fly back.
Rather than flooding with you the endless amounts of facts + trivia bits (if Lake Superior was the size of the US it would be 5 feet deep with water), I’ll let you go ahead and just soak in all the blues Michigan had to offer.
^^ I’m not sure if you can see it… but that tree has one large root running across the rock in mid air to the main shore for it’s water source. S o c o o l.
^^ Spray Falls – the river just ends in a waterfall into the lake…. and that water. [wc_fa icon=”heart” margin_left=”” margin_right=””][/wc_fa]
Throughout the entire summer I had been dreaming of visiting Michigan and finding the perfect white dress for the weekend. I snagged this unique dress from Urban Outfitters and couldn’t be happier, as it isn’t too short for a breezy weekend on a lake or in Wyoming.
[wc_divider style=”image” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=””]Long story short… Michigan blues are a must. And I’m happy to say that I’m now someone who can’t stop talking about visiting the UP when asked.
