Enlightening podcasts

Headphones

With so much traveling I never really seemed to have time to talk about podcasts.  Which is certainly not a bad thing just seemed quite unrelatable to me these last couple weeks.

Now that I’m firmly planted back in Montana for the foreseeable future I feel like I can finally get back into my normal routines. Traveling is great. But I love having a routine so I’m welcoming it with open arms

I’ve tried to start a good podcast habit at home rather than constant Netflix streaming in the background. And so I have found some treasures. They are a bit varied from life to business to sleep habits, but these are the enlightening podcasts I can’t stop thinking about no matter where I am.

Jenna Kutcher – Why Persistence Pays Off with Alyssa Thiel

Jenna’s podcasts have always been a hit or miss for me. I seem to either become enthralled within the first minute or ten minutes in noticed I haven’t been paying any attention   But this episode with the Parris Chic Boutique founder had  me on the edge of my seat.

I found Alyssa’s upfront honesty about  her business success incredibly eye opening.  Just a few months ago I saw PCB got the opportunity of a lifetime – her company sold by none other than Magnolia aka the Joanna Gaines. To me it was an overnight success that made me internally think “lucky girl!”

Come to find out luck had little to do with it. And her story is one I keep at the front of my mind whenever blogging business gets me down.

EntreLeadership – 5 Seconds to Better Life and Business

L is a die hard podcast fan. My love of Friends on Netflix is his equivalent to podcasts. As I often hear him in the shower with a podcast blaring above the spray or on the counter while he fixes dinner.  (He’s easily the cook in this whole dynamic duo.)

But there are few I really get into. There are some I sort of shrug and say cool or interesting but for some reason this one stuck with me.

Probably because it’s something literally everyone can connect to: second guessing yourself and sleeping. Two topics entirely not related, but explained in such simple, enlightening terms.  Along with a healthy dose of nerdy scientific experiments.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

The Minimalists

You caught me. I couldn’t pick just one episode and opted to just link their entire collection. After my own year of less + minimalism skyrocketing into pop culture it probably isn’t too surprising that there is a minimalist podcast out there, as well.

But what sold me on this show is their down to earth definition of the new craze.  Minimalism is consuming with intention.

It’s not throwing away your entire household items to only display a well placed fern leaf  on top of your dining room table (#nailedit ).  It’s about taking the time and finding out what you value in your life. And the process of ridding yourself of the ‘clutter’ that keeps you from what you value.

Josh and Ryan’s podcast structure is a perfect reflection of their ideologies – a simple question and answer.  I love that they cover tough topics like that fine balance of consumerism vs finding high quality materials. Can you be a collector and a minimalist? They make all these topics extremely approachable and their sarcastic sense of humor seems to help lighten the mood of some highly enlightening podcasts.

If you are still on the fence of this whole minimalism idea, listen to their very first podcast episode.  No judging.  No high horses.  Just two guys talking about day to day lessons.

I gotta say… podcasts are starting to win me over.  They are a unique mix of education and entertainment.  And break up the day from the endless Netflix shows 😉
