Ask me what city I love to travel the most to and I will quickly tell you Salt Lake City.  It’s only recently that I started “weekending” there, as for a long time I visited on multiple week stints for work.  Maybe this is where I fell in love with it.  As I  started to romanticize the city with it’s impressive temples and local restaurants, for being nothing like the long hours of grueling field work I was having to complete.

This last little weekend that I visited was unfortunately one of the rainiest I’ve ever seen the city be, but luckily that just meant I had to devote my time finding cute cafes to duck into and do a little car tourism.  (I noticed a lot of older couples doing this on Sunday as well and it made me feel immediately 30 years older!)

Eva’s Bakery 

A little French escape tucked away in the heart of downtown and surrounded by decadent pastries.  I love the elegant French decor almost as much as I love the lemon cream cheese stuffed french toast topped with blueberry compote. It’s the best place to start your weekends as you can stock up on as many carbs as you deem necessary alongside with the most delicious pomegranate black tea.  (I may also suggest grabbing another cup of tea to go as you start your day, but that’s just me.)

If one stop isn’t enough for your weekend (I speak from experience) their delicious French macarons make for the perfect midday Sunday snack.

Caputo’s

An authentic Italian deli practically begging for you to sit down with a loaf of bread, specialty chocolates or cheeses.  

I’m a bit partial to a well made dish of lasagna and theirs is possibly the best I’ve had in quite some time.  They also have an entire three walls dedicated to chocolate and I think my goal in life is to all of them. (Really reaching for the stars, huh? [wc_fa icon=”smile-o” margin_left=”” margin_right=””][/wc_fa])  I’ve brought multiple people here with me whenever I’m not traveling alone and I have yet for someone to walk out of it without dabbling in some venture of Italian cuisine. 

Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana

The attached ice cream shop to this delicious pizzeria got visited  a l o t for only a rainy weekend stay.  It was an easy excuse for having our dinner right next to dessert, but really their strawberry ice cream tasted like REAL strawberries it was just to hard to resist.  (Full disclosure I only eat mint chocolate chip, but even I had to admit the strawberry was amazing.)

Sugarhouse & The Avenues 

I’m soooooo annoyed that I don’t have one single photo of these charming sections of Salt Lake.  I blame the all picturesque streets filled with charm and sprawling green medians that distracted me and wondering if I had be suddenly transported back in the southern states.

I will say the two neighborhoods could not be more different.  

Sugarhouse is dedicated to charm, art and the unusual, whereas The Avenues is much more affluent.  Still both have their appeal and I wouldn’t say see one over the other, as they both offer something the other does not. 

 We actually stayed just south of The Avenues at a charming little Airbnb that seemed to be the perfect little balance of the two neighborhoods. 

 Temple Square 

Temple Square really can be appreciated any time during the day and most likely you’ll pass it at least a couple of times while you are running around SLC, but to get the most out of it, I swear the best time is sunset. 

The light seems to hit every temple perfectly and gives the overall place a certain glow.  I noticed we were a bit early for gardens this year, but it’s still such a spectacular site, even without all the roses blooming.

Salt Lake City seems to be that one place that I’m always counting down to visit again.  It makes traveling in a large city so easy as their streets are massive + offer so many convenient ways to explore the city.
