Creative Retreat A Frame House

A few weeks back I took a leap far out of my comfort zone.  I signed up for creative retreat in Heber City with…. total strangers.  I would like to preface that I knew a few on Instagram, but L and my parents were still a bit put off that I had signed up to spend two nights in a cabin, in an entirely separate state, with people I had never met.  It was the kind of scenario I felt so incredibly uncomfortable committing to… But luckily for me everyone turned out to beyond kind!

And we ended up with two whole days living in possibly the cutest A frame out there.  I can’t wait for you guys to see just how cute this little home was and let you in on a big secret!

Our retreat was hosted by Elsa in the cutest a-frame. The haus was tucked away near Heber City and for two and half days, we stayed in pure bliss with photoshoots and guest speakers. While at first we had dedicated models and photographers, as time went on that line started to blur more and more and soon we grabbed anyone to get the shot.

Elsa also had guest speakers come in and talk to us about podcasts and social media, photography and back to overall wellness. I really enjoyed these times as it gave the retreat some structure, though never once felt restrictive.

I don’t think everyone knows this but even though photography has turned into a  h u g e  passion (borderline career) for me, I still get incredibly self conscious behind the camera.  I think a big part of it comes from sometimes feeling like an imposter.  I became a blogger, fell in love with it and here I am.  No formal education or a ton of time ‘honing’ my craft, just someone with a lot of passion.  And I often feel as if anyone could do what I do so what makes me so special?

Not so surprising that I found myself beyond uncomfortable on the first day, but I actually ended up leaving completely inspired. With new skills and knowledge about photography + lightroom, as well as, so many new friends!

In fact, whenever people ask me what I loved most it’s hands down the confidence boost I gained (I am a photographer – no matter what my resume says) and the connections I made. Networking can always be so awkward, but hanging out + slumber parties in one of the cutest houses out there?? I’m all in.

Just FYI Elsa said she was in the works for planning another one so I highly suggest keeping your eye out if you also love:

  • photos
  • sleep overs
  • cute houses
  • amazing ladies

I couldn’t suggest the retreat enough and I hope a few of my friends go on the next one!

It goes without saying that my first creative retreat was borderline perfect.  While I was so nervous putting myself out there with an entire group I had never met, I absolutely loved it.  My year was supposed to be all about intention, but the more I think about it the more I realize it’s become all about being uncomfortable.  Moving from my home, starting a new career, putting myself out there and joining a retreat… It all made me so uncomfortable and forever grateful.

ALSO… be on the look out as a Bozeman retreat is in the works! I had so much fun with this group I am determined to bring this type of event to my own community, so I’m working with a local blogger to get our own town something this inspiring.

Have you ever gotten the chance to join a retreat? Whether you have or not, what is one thing you would absolutely love to have included?
