I feel as if you could use one word to sum up the homes in my life it would be: quirky.  My first home that I had through college was the definition of quirky.  It’s charming brick chimney and open closet design was often drowned out by the slanting floors or horribly placed light switches.  Our new apartment suffers from some of the same quirkiness. The lofted bedroom with slanted ceilings and spiral staircase are so quaint, but the outdated bits + super small upstairs shower makes it a touch awkward.

There is nothing like the challenge of finding home decor for these spots.  It takes much more creativity than a simple couch or chair for our unique spaces.

Wall Tapestries

Our lofted bedroom has a small window that looked odd with a lone curtain.  And without a window covering our guests would be lacking some serious privacy.

So rather than investing in yet another pricey window covering, I had an idea to use a wall tapestry.  Typically for large blank walls I pulled this decorative cloth over the small window creating a makeshift curtain. Not only giving our guests some much needed privacy, but giving the lofted bedroom another world feel.

Floor Cushions

Truth be told I discovered these out of necessity.  My old home had such tiny living space that our small leather loveseat could barely fit.  Forget having multiple people over.  We could only fit two people without it feeling completely overwhelmed.  And it was after years of bemoaning the small space that I finally embraced it!

I gave up on typical living room furniture and created my own multi purpose furniture.

Floor cushions stacked up to create living room tables, that could easily be unstacked and used for seating.  The beauty of these guys is just how multi-purpose they can truly be.

I’m planning on a new home project complete with day beds + floor cushions for a new tech free corner.  Showing just how much my obsession with these has grown.

Collage Walls

I’ve always loved collages. In my college years I created a  ‘hot guy wall’ (I’ll let you deduce what kind of photos there were) and I remember decorating many a binder with images in high school, since my Momma hated that sort of thing.  I’m certainly not wanting recreate the ‘hot guy wall’ (as enjoyable as it was), but my love for collages has slowly creeped back in after seeing so many creative ones out there.

As of my now my own art prints have graced my walls in a much more grown up fashion, but I’ve started to introduce over lapping prints again.  My rose print + Rifle Paper Co prints go seamlessly together and I can’t wait to share the final project.

So I’ll just say this:

Let your collage be  y o u.
Add want you want. (Hot guys included.)
Play with size of prints.
And textures.

Textures

I think we all lean towards things we going overboard in our home. (Much like those who can’t stop buying shoes!)  For me that’s pillows on pillows on snuggly throws.  And my feminine-rustic loving heart adores mixing different textures to create entirely new looks.

This fuzzy pink pillow seemed a touch over the top until I paired it down with a much less extravagant mudcloth pillow from my favorite Etsy shop.  And don’t get me started on just how great velvet pillows are to throw in the mix!

Whatever your obsession, try mixing textures to create even more customizable looks.

 

For so long I would try to make my spaces ideal.   Always buying and returning pieces, fighting the awkward little spaces I was blessed with.  Now I embrace the awkwardness with fluffy pillows, unique tapestries and well placed floor pillows!
