The Ten Hair Commandments

With every new season that comes around I feel like the number of new product release emails I receive are endless! Which is so exciting for any product junkie, but I also feel like it’s easy to forget the staples as they often get drowned out by all the hype.  Here are ten things to never forget when it comes to loving your beautiful tresses.

one. Thou shalt commit to a once a week deep condition.

This is probably the commandment that I break the most – but my hair seriously thanks me for when I stick to it.  I showed off my favorite hair conditioner here and have yet to stop loving it.

two. Thou shalt not sleep in tight hair ties.

Just don’t ever.

It’s probably the harshest thing on hair and causes   s o  m u c h  breakage.  If you must sleep in a ponytail invest in some these pretty little bands.

three.  Thou shalt not wash your hair every day.

I used to be this girl and aside from loathing having to style my hair everyday, I knew it wasn’t optimal for my hair health.

If you struggle to not wash your hair everyday, try investing in a dry shampoo that actually cleans your hair and stock up on some second day hairstyles.

four. Thou shalt commit to only using ceramic hot tools.

Ceramic curling irons and straighteners provide even heat distribution which means your hair is better produced from being over heated and damaged! There are some tools that are a mix of ceramic + tourmaline and those are work just as well too.

five. Thou shall invest in a good heat protectant.

A couple of my favorites are Bumble and Bumble Hair Primer or Living Proof Hair primer.  Both products protect my hair from heat and along with many other environmental factors!

six.  Thou shalt not blow dry your hair every day.

This is especially tricky if you tend to workout before work, but at least once a week I try to shower at night and just let my locks air dry.

seven.  Thou shalt use the correct brushes.

There are s o o o  many hair tools out there.  But making sure you are using  a wide toothed comb or vented paddle brush for the correct purpose is the best way to protect your hair from any damage.

eight. Thou shalt not go two years without washing your hair.

What is it with society anymore?? Someone says don’t wash your hair everyday and now it’s a competition to see how long we can go without stepping into the shower?  S e t t l e   d o w n.

Washing your hair everyday can dry it out, but so can just living off dry shampoo.  Pushing our hair (or even skin!) to such extremes is not healthy.  Make sure to figure out a healthy balance for you and your scalp.

nine. Thou shalt believe in a hair mixology.

I’ll cover this a bit later on, but basically I don’t think there is one product for everyone.  But if you find the right mixture of products you can get your perfect hair!

ten. Thou shalt love your hair

The grass is always greener.  And instead of hating what mother nature blessed you with… you may as well accept it and love your hair.
